A Closer Look at Pittsfield and What We Do for Homes Here

George Noyes made the first land purchase here in 1824, and the county’s first school, the McCracken School, opened in 1825. The land was still part of Ann Arbor Township when that township formed in 1827, and the name Pitt was suggested by Ezra Carpenter. The 2020 census counted 39,147 residents.

I-94 crosses the northern part of the township, US-23 runs north and south along its east side and US-12, West Michigan Avenue, cuts diagonally across the south. Paint Creek begins in the northeast corner, and the Ann Arbor District Library opened its Pittsfield branch in 2006.

Concrete Floor Finishes for Pittsfield Garages and Basements

A plain concrete slab in a Pittsfield garage picks up oil drips, tracked-in salt and dust that never quite sweeps away. Coating it or polishing it changes that, leaving a surface that is easy to keep clean and looks like part of the house instead of an afterthought.

Below grade, the slab is looked over for cracks, residue and old sealers, and a moisture test comes before any product goes down. Water coming through the walls or floor is a job for a waterproofing contractor, and it has to be handled before we coat anything.

Pittsfield Township Questions Answered

Straight answers to the painting, drywall and floor coating questions Pittsfield homeowners search for most.

My Pittsfield Township address says Ann Arbor, Saline or Ypsilanti. Do you still serve it?

Yes. Homes in Pittsfield Charter Township use Ann Arbor, Saline and Ypsilanti ZIP codes for mail, so the city on your envelope often differs from the township you live in. Either way, the address is inside our service area.

Does my HOA need to approve exterior paint colors before the house is painted?

If your subdivision has a homeowners association, check its rules first, since many require approval of siding, trim and door colors. Once your colors are picked, you have the exact names to submit before the exterior painting is scheduled.

Why is the paint on my house peeling?

The usual causes are moisture getting behind the paint, paint applied over dirty or chalky surfaces, and old coats that have simply lost their grip. A lasting fix means scraping off the loose paint, repairing any rotted wood and priming bare spots before the new finish goes on.

Which paint sheen is best for walls, trim and bathrooms?

A common approach is flat on ceilings, eggshell or satin on walls, and semi-gloss on trim, doors and bathrooms, because glossier paint wipes clean more easily. Higher sheen also shows wall flaws more, so the choice is talked over with you before painting starts.

Does new drywall need primer before it is painted?

Yes. Drywall paper and joint compound soak up paint at different rates, so skipping primer can leave dull, blotchy patches known as flashing. New sheets and repaired areas are primed before the finish coats; see our drywall page.

Can a dark wall be painted a light color?

Yes. Covering a deep color with a pale one generally takes a coat of primer first and then the finish coats, so the old shade does not show through. That added step is included when the room is priced.

What is the difference between an epoxy garage floor and garage floor paint?

Garage floor paint is a thin film rolled on much like wall paint, and it tends to lift under hot tires. An epoxy system is built in layers on concrete prepared to accept it and finished with a tough clear layer on top, giving a thicker floor made for vehicles. See the systems we install for Pittsfield garage floors.

Can you coat a garage floor that has oil stains?

Often, yes. Oil that has soaked into concrete stops a coating from bonding, so stained spots are dealt with during prep, and the prep method depends on how the slab looks. If a stain runs too deep to treat, the estimate tells you.

Why does moisture matter before a garage floor is coated?

Water vapor rising through a slab can push a coating loose from underneath. That is why moisture testing is one of our garage prep steps, done before any coating is applied.

Should I paint or stain my front door?

Stain fits a wood door in good shape when you want the grain to show. Paint is the better pick when the door has filled dents or repairs that stain would highlight. Both are options in our front door refinishing.
