Brighton at a Glance and What Its Homes Need

Brighton was settled in the 1830s, became a village in 1867 and incorporated as a city in 1928. The city has about 7,400 residents, and Brighton Township around it adds roughly 19,000 more. Downtown is built around the Mill Pond, where a waterfront path, an amphitheater and the area’s veterans memorial line the water.

Outside downtown, the area is full of lakes, and the Brighton and Island Lake state recreation areas cover thousands of acres nearby. Homes range from older houses close to Main Street, to cottages and year-round lake houses, to the subdivisions that have filled in around the US-23 and I-96 interchange.

  • Houses on the Water

Lakefront siding, trim and decks get more sun, wind and damp than homes inland. A house and deck wash and fresh exterior paint keep them from weathering out.

  • A Boat at the Dock

If you keep a boat on one of the area’s lakes, we polish faded gelcoat and pontoon tubes right at your home or dock.

  • Newer Subdivisions

Many newer homes have bare concrete garages and unfinished lower levels. A garage floor coating or basement floor finishes them off.

  • Older Homes Near Main Street

Original doors, trim and wood floors can usually be refinished instead of replaced, with the walls around them refreshed in interior paint.

Garage, Basement & Mica Floors Around Brighton

Livingston County winters bring snow, slush and road salt, and all of it rides into the garage on your tires. Uncoated concrete is porous, so it soaks up that salty water along with oil and grime. A coated or polished floor gives the slab a surface you can sweep and mop instead.

Before we recommend anything, we check the slab for cracks, old coatings, oil stains and, in a basement, a moisture test. Prep is matched to what we find. We do not do waterproofing, so if water is coming through the slab, that gets fixed first, before any coating goes on.

Repair and Refinish Before You Replace in Your Brighton Home

A lot of wear on a house is only in the finish: a front door with peeling paint, trim with a few soft spots, an oak floor gone gray where people walk, cabinets worn at the edges. If the wood or metal underneath is still solid, we can repair and refinish it instead of tearing it out. If it is too far gone, we will tell you that at the estimate.

We remodel kitchens and bathrooms as part of our interior renovation work. A job can be a refresh of the surfaces or a full remodel with new cabinets, floors and fixtures. Either way, it starts with sorting out which parts of the room you want to keep.

Brighton FAQ

Straight answers for homeowners and lake residents in and around Brighton about how we work.

Do you work in the townships around Brighton, or only in the city?

Both. Besides homes inside Brighton city limits, we take jobs in the nearby townships, including Brighton, Genoa, Green Oak and Hamburg. If you are not sure your address is covered, put it on the form and we will confirm.

Is Brighton a regular part of your service area?

Yes. Our home is Whitmore Lake, south of Brighton along US-23, so Brighton jobs are part of our normal schedule. Every community we cover is listed in our service area directory.

Can you paint the outside of a lake house or cottage?

Yes. A lakefront home is prepped like any other house we paint. Depending on its condition, that can mean cleaning the siding, scraping off loose paint, sanding, sealing open joints and priming before the finish coats go on. Details are on our exterior painting page.

Can you fix rotted trim or window sills before painting?

Yes. Repairing rotted wood on sills, siding boards and outside trim is part of our surface restoration service, and it can be done ahead of painting on the same estimate.

My boat stays at a lake near Brighton all summer. Do I need to bring it to you?

No. Our boat service is mobile, so the work happens wherever the boat is: tied up at your dock while it floats, or parked on a trailer in your yard or driveway. See how it works on our boat restoration page.

Can I get a kitchen or bathroom refresh instead of a full remodel?

Yes. A refresh keeps the layout and fixtures and updates surfaces such as cabinets, paint, trim, flooring or the vanity. A full remodel replaces much more of the room. Both are explained in the kitchen and bath section of our renovation page.

Can you finish the rest of my basement, not just the floor?

Yes. Finishing a basement falls under our interior renovation work, including walls, trim, flooring and paint. The slab gets a moisture test first. Waterproofing is not a service we offer, so if water is coming in, a waterproofing contractor needs to solve that before our work begins.

Do you install mica or metallic epoxy floors?

Yes. Our swirled mica floors, which some people call metallic epoxy, can go in garages, basements, living areas and workshops. Styles and colors are on the mica epoxy flooring page.

Do you soft wash vinyl siding?

Yes. Siding is cleaned with a low-pressure soft wash rather than a high-pressure blast, which is gentler on vinyl and painted surfaces. Read more about soft washing.

What happens after I send the estimate form?

We read through your details and photos, contact you if we need more information, and then send a free estimate that describes the prep and the work. There is no obligation to book. The form is above on this page.

Your question is not here? Call us, or type it into the form along with your project details and we will get back to you.
